Chicago has been referred to as the Second City since the early 19th century. Known best for its delicious food, lively downtown area, colleges and universities, and the city's ideal location bordering Wisconsin, Indiana, and Lake Michigan makes Chicago; a city of greatness, a city of communities and cultures, and a city of diversity and tolerance. But like all cities Chicago has problems. One of the most serious being the intense amount of poverty within the city. Poverty stricken neighborhoods linger mostly throughout Chicago's south and west sides. In these areas violence, shootings, and gang activity is unfortunately a part of everyday life. Children play on corners because playgrounds are no where to be found. And everything from the schools to the CTA stations are extremely underfunded. As you can imagine, it is hard to find hope, but not impossible. Through this website I hope to show A Second Look At The Second City. It's amazing how far good intentions can go. My goal is simple: raise awareness through art.
